AEA Ad-Hoc - Sue Schirmer

Sue Schirmer – AEA Ad Hoc Representative

I am currently employed by Heartland AEA 11 and my role here is much like it was as a school counselor – I do a little bit of everything! I offer professional learning opportunities for our school counselors and work with individual districts and buildings to improve school counseling and at-risk services. I also provide professional development on adult learning, facilitating groups and Cognitive CoachingSM I love my job and believe it is a privilege to be able to work with so many talented and excited professionals!! I also teach as an adjunct for both Buena Vista and Drake University.

Prior to coming to Heartland, I was a teacher and counselor at an alternative school, as well as a teacher and K-12 counselor in South Dakota. In life previous to education, I was in the banking industry and my husband and I owned a supper club.

What’s left of my free time is spent with family and traveling. My husband and I have two grown daughters. Katie, her husband Tom and our precious granddaughter live in Littleton, CO and Emily and her husband Brian live about 2 miles from us. For an exciting conversation, ask me about my husband’s work sometime!

I love to hear about the exciting things you are doing in school counseling!! Please contact me to share your news and ways in which ISCA can support your work!!
