Sue Schirmer – AEA Ad Hoc Representative
I am currently employed by Heartland AEA 11 and my role here is much like it was as a school counselor – I do a little bit of everything! I offer professional learning opportunities for our school counselors and work with individual districts and buildings to improve school counseling and at-risk services. I also provide professional development on adult learning, facilitating groups and Cognitive CoachingSM. This year, I was named the Post-Secondary Success Lead for AEA PREP. I love my job and believe it is a privilege to be able to work with so many talented and excited professionals!! I also teach as an adjunct for Drake University.
Prior to coming to Heartland, I was a teacher and counselor at an alternative school, as well as a teacher and K-12 counselor in South Dakota. In life previous to education, I was in the banking industry and my husband and I owned a supper club.
What’s left of my free time is spent with family and traveling. My husband and I have two grown daughters. Katie, her husband Tom and our precious granddaughter live in Littleton, CO and Emily and her husband Brian and our precious grandson live .8 miles from us. For an exciting conversation, ask me about my husband’s work sometime!
I love to hear about the exciting things you are doing in school counseling!! Please contact me to share your news and ways in which ISCA can support your work!!
