Sheryl Cline - Vice President- K-12
I am Sheryl Cline, the K-12 Vice-President. I graduated from the University of Iowa in 2012 and began working at Central City CSD. This fall will start my third year. My formal title is K-12 counselor, but we recently hired another ½ time counselor thanks to the sharing legislation. I will be providing consistent support to grades 4-12, but will be available for all students when the other counselor is not in the building. I am very excited to have another counselor so we can focus more on our elementary needs. I have also supervised a practicum student and will be supervising our new counselor as she completes her internship hours this coming school year.
In addition to my counseling role, I also work for the Arc of East Central Iowa as a Direct Service Provider. I spend nights, weekends, and summers working with individuals with disabilities to give their parents respite and teach community living skills. I love being able to assist our consumers and their families in this way and have found it to be a very rewarding experience.
I decided to be on the board after some encouragement by colleagues. I think it is important to advocate for our position around the state and work with other counselors so we can be the best we can be. In this position, I hope to learn from other counselors/board members, but also bring new ideas and perspectives to the board as a K-12 counselor and someone who is fairly new to the profession. I also hope to help support the other K-12 counselors around the state and collect new ideas to assist in managing our busy roles as K-12 counselors. I am always interested to hear how other counselors organize classroom guidance, small groups, and individual counseling and how they manage their time.
Outside of work, I spend a lot of time with my dog Luke going exploring and walking at the parks around the Cedar Rapids area. I also enjoy visiting my parents and siblings and watching my niece and nephew.
Please let me know if I can help in any way.
