Cory Graven - Secretary
Hello! My name is Cory Graven and I am honored and excited to begin my term as ISCA Board secretary. In my role as secretary, I am responsible for typing and disseminating meeting minutes to Board members. Board meeting minutes are available on the ISCA website for public viewing.
As a member of the ISCA Board, I have the opportunity to join in on a collaborative effort to advocate and support the school counseling profession in order to provide our students the comprehensive services and programming they deserve. For this to happen, I believe it is imperative that professional school counselors are equipped with the resources and professional development opportunities necessary to meet the multidimensional needs of ALL students we serve. This profession is not a sole endeavor. There is so much to learn by networking and collaborating...and it makes it more fun! As professional school counselors, we truly have the power to impact the lives of students each and every day. We also have the unique opportunity to facilitate and mold the cultures within our schools - not only as partners in education, but as dynamic leaders as well.
Currently, I am a middle school counselor with Charles City Schools. I graduated from Wartburg College in 2007 with a B.A. in Physical Education, and recently obtained my M.S. in Professional School Counseling from Buena Vista University. Prior to joining Charles City, I spent a year as a middle school counselor in Cedar Rapids.
Family is very important in my life...and we stay very busy! My wife Kimberly and I reside in Waterloo, IA and enjoy spending time with our two young children Maverick and Piper. When I am not chasing these kiddos around, I also enjoy being active outdoors, running, camping, cheering on the Cyclones and Red Sox, reading, and traveling.
