Hello Iowa School Counselors & Friends….
Welcome to the Iowa School Counseling Association website!
It is with great excitement that I write this greeting to you. I am extremely excited to be starting my term as President of the Iowa School Counselor Association. I have served on the ISCA board for the past two years as President Elect-Elect and President-Elect. I am looking forward to continuing my work with school counselors throughout the state of Iowa.
Our Counseling Association is such a fabulous organization on both the state and national level. There are so many resources available to us, as school counselors. We just need to know that these resources are there – and how to utilize them. As an ISCA Board Member I am here to serve you. I am thrilled to be a part of assisting you and recognize the positive difference you make in the lives of our Iowa students.
I was born in Sioux City, Iowa. I have a B.A. in Elementary Education from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. After two years of teaching, I attended the University of South Dakota where I earned my M.A. in Professional School Counseling and completed my Ed. D. in 2002.
I understand the importance in having counseling programs based on the ASCA standards and addressing the social/emotional, academic, and career needs of each student in ALL Iowa schools. It is imperative that our standards-based, data driven, comprehensive programs are an integral part of educating students to be career, college, and citizen ready for future success.
As the 2014-15 ISCA President, I look forward to continued work with the ISCA board and with all counselors across the state of Iowa in a collaborative effort to provide for the developmental needs of all students through excellence in professional school counseling programs.
I am excited for our growth and look forward to working with you all. Please contact any member of the ISCA Board if there is anything we can do to assist you.
Amy DeGroot-Hammer, President 2014-2015
