NBCT - National Board Certified Teacher in the Field of School Counseling

NBCT is recognized as the “gold standard” for certification in the field of education.  The founding mission of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is to advance the quality of teaching and learning by:

  • Maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished educators should know and do;
  • Providing a national voluntary system certifying teachers who meet these standards;
  • Advocating educational reforms to integrate National Board Certification into the American education system as well as to capitalize on the expertise of National Board Certified Teachers.
The process of becoming an NBCT is exceptionally rigorous.  Research shows that students of National Board Certified Teachers learn more than students in other classrooms.  AS a result, ISCA recognizes every school counselor who achieves this high standard of professionalism within our field.
