Hi! My name is Riley Drake and I am the ISCA Board secretary. As the Board secretary, I have the opportunity to network with an experienced, knowledgeable group of professional school counselors who advocate for school counselors across Iowa. The passion and advocacy from this organization supports and enhances my own dreams for school counseling. In 2011-2012, I served as the ISCA Graduate Student Representative. In my current role, as secretary, I am responsible for typing and disseminating meeting minutes to Board members. Board meeting minutes are available on the ISCA website for public viewing.
I am the K-5 elementary school counselor at Abbie Sawyer Elementary School in Ames, Iowa. I graduated from Truman State University in 2008 with a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology and from Drake University in 2011 with a Master of Science in Education in School Counseling. I am passionate about social justice and advocacy, multicultural counseling, school counselor leadership and legislative advocacy. My dream for all students is that they will have access to a comprehensive school counseling program with a licensed professional school counselor who works to close achievement gaps and ensure equity for EVERY student.
In my free time, I enjoy reading professional literature, drinking tea, walking my dog and spending time with my family and friends. I am actively involved in my school's garden and use it in programming as often as possible. Please see my blog, Edible School Counseling (http://schoolcounselordrake.blogspot.com/) for more information. I would love to work with you on expanding your school counseling program to include nature-based counseling. Feel free to email me at any time!
