Welcome from the President
Greetings, school counselors!
Welcome to the ISCA website – we’re glad you’re here! You may have noticed our vision listed on this website: to advance the academic, career and emotional/social development of all students through excellence in school counseling. It’s our hope that ISCA can be instrumental in helping to provide the resources that school counselors in Iowa need to do their jobs well and be effective. It’s a great time to be a school counselor and celebrate the unique, vital role that school counselors play in student success.
We would encourage you to get involved in ISCA as your professional organization, and there are a couple of very easy ways to do this. First, become an ISCA member. As an ISCA member, your benefits include (but are not limited to): access to website resources (including members-only resources), e-newsletters, legislative advocacy, professional development, and a professional network. The second way to get involved is by attending our annual conference. Our 2018 conference will be held on November 4-6 at the Prairie Meadows conference Center in Altoona, IA. This year’s conference theme is “Go the Distance: Stepping Into the Future.”
Besides becoming a member and attending the conference, other ways to be involved include volunteering on a committee or even seeking a board position. Perhaps you’re not sure about that right now, but if you have time, check out the profiles of the board members on the “Governing Board” page. You’ll find out that we are all regular people with a passion for school counseling. When I first joined ISCA, it was to be a part of a that passionate group, and being around other amazing school counselors has helped me grow professionally in ways I could never have imagined. You never know where your journey will lead! One of my favorite quotes “all our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them”. So, if you have a passion for all things school counseling, jump in and join us!
Have a great school year!
